Product Description
Carrying your gear in the Gregory Palisade 80 Backpack assures that your load is comfortably balanced and easily accessible while you're in the woods on a week-long trip. One of Gregory's most popular packs for extended trips, the Palisade includes a front pocket for organization and a sleeping bag compartment with a divider that can be opened for more space. When you're making a quick side trip from camp, the lid converts into a fanny pack, so you can carry the day's necessities. Because week-long trips are usually accompanied by heavy loads, the Palisade uses Gregory's AUTO-CANT harness system to assure a perfect fit and ideal distribution of weight.

5 out of 5 stars Best 80L backpack out there   May 31, 2010

Better than expected!

I bought this pack on November 2009 for a week mountain trip, this pack handled all my gear ( I mean every single thing I could pack) including 2 3L camelback bladders, my eureka 2XT tent, 2 sleeping bags, food, 4 Nalgene wide mouth water bottles, Coleman stove Coleman propane gas, ez rest mattress...It handled 60lb very comfortably! I highly recommend this backpack, I have 6 months using it every month and its just the best backpack I have ever used.

5 out of 5 stars Amazing Pack   February 15, 2010

I am new to the backpacking world and picked up this pack. I've taken it to Santa Rosa Island, Big Sur, and Mt Whitney. I never had a complaint. Pack felt light and comfortable. I love this pack. If you can afford it I would highly suggest it. Gregory has great customer service as well.

5 out of 5 stars Best in the market.   January 12, 2010
Orlando Gil (DR)
I ordered this backpack for a week hike in the mountains, I packed all my gear (Food, cloth, extra shoes, sleeping bag, tent, water, GPS) 60LB of stuff went a week thru a very difficult terrain, very rainy and muddy, it carried like a champ I couldn't feel all the weight, felt like I was carrying 15LB the entire trip, its very comfortable, and has space for ALL your gear.

I also mixed it with the Gregory rain cover in Medium size.

My torso measured 18" I would have gone with the Small instead of medium.

5 out of 5 stars Exceptional Piece of Equipment   May 20, 2008

After doing months of research I went to my EMS store and tried on various packs including this one. The difference was immediately evident. The molded back and straps were simply far superior to their counter parts. I even tried on an Osprey and was surprised at the difference in quality of fit considering the Osprey reputation.

I am only new to backpacking but I knew investing in a good pack was the smart thing to do and it paid off out on the trail. Expecting to have all sorts of aches and pains returning from my four day hike I was again surprised to find my pack had done its job to perfection. Barring one sore muscle from my own ineptitude I was fine no back pain no nothing (Even though as a novice I over prepared and ended up with far too much weight).

It features top load, front load and bottom load so you can reach any piece of equipment easily at any time. It has water bladder storage. It has two nifty belt pouches for candies or perhaps a digital camera all which are well designed and durable. The top can detach to double as a day pack (although I have yet to see a practical use for this).

While looking for a good pack I typed "Best backpack" into Google and came across a consumer research page whereby they had gathered information from as many sources as possible on the best backpacks, here is an excerpt taken directly from that site "Some brands stand out, however - especially Gregory, Osprey and Arc'Teryx. An older survey of through-hikers on the Appalachian Trail by Roland Mueser found that hikers were most satisfied with Gregory backpacks, and it continues to be one of the brands most recommended in backpack reviews."

Apparently the delight with Gregory stems from their durability. They need less repairs and maintenance than other brands. I can't attest to this but again the construction is definitely solid.

All in all I'm delighted with this item. We'll see over time how it holds up but at this point I would have no desire to change this for anything else.

WARNING: Backpacks come in different sizes which is vital for the fit. Speak with someone who knows about them in a store. This is a science and they know their stuff.
