About Swiss Army Knives
In 1884, Swiss cutler Karl Elsener set up shop in Ibach-Schwyz, installing a waterwheel in Tobelbach Brook to run his grinding and polishing machines. Thus began what would become the international brand name Victorinox, a combination of Victoria, for Elsener's mother, and "inox," or stainless steel. Today, Victorinox produces watches, luggage, clothing, and, famously, Swiss Army Knives. The forerunner of that name dates to 1897, when Elsener patented the Swiss Officer's and Sports Knife he supplied to the Swiss Army. Following World War II, American servicemen and women shopping in PX stores shortened the name to Swiss Army Knife, which lives on in English-speaking countries around the world and has become a metaphor or versatility.

5 out of 5 stars What a great knife!   July 21, 2010
Douglas R. Walker (Lone Oak, TX United States)
I have several Swiss Army Knives...but this one is a litte bigger, and has scissors.

I keep it in my back-pack, and it is real handy.

I may get on for my wife to keep in her purse.

5 out of 5 stars Swiss Army knife   March 23, 2010

This is a great knife, everyone should have one. I use this almost everyday. The scissors is especially useful.

5 out of 5 stars Very Pleased   March 18, 2010
Longtail (Seattle, WA United States)
Victorinox is legendary knife maker and a brand name you can trust for any quality blade you need from Swiss army knives to kitchen cutlery. I picked this knife because I'm a fan of this maker, and also because it has everything I want in it. I take this thing out foraging all the time, and the blades are sharp and cut the plants I need well. Even the scissors have some good torque to them.

I can even use the hook for a little extra reach to grab a branch through a bramble or something.

All in all, good price, great brand, awesome knife. Definately worth a buy.

4 out of 5 stars Hook the Hook   March 17, 2010
David Stiller (Westminster, CA USA)
Very nice knife, but the hook blade is only good for conversation (as in "What do you suppose this blade is for?"). Other than that, it's a very useful knife.

5 out of 5 stars Where True Swiss Army Knives begin.   February 22, 2010

The climber IMO is where serious SAK's begin. The tool that sets the Climber apart from it less expensive brethren, is the scissors. It is strong enough to trim fingernails, yet delicate and precise enough to cut lightweight paper precisly. When using any of the tools, you can feel the precision built into each functional tool.
I have other Victorinox SAK's, but the usefullness, combined with the small size and light weight, make the Climber the one I reach for 95% of the time.
