Amazon.com Product Description There's no better way to spend a weekend than hiking with your dog, but it can get a little tiresome hauling gear for both you and Cosmo. Fortunately, now your pooch can carry his own food, water, and toys--and some of your gear as well--with this Mountainsmith dog pack. Available in three sizes, the pack is outfitted with an independently adjustable fleece-lined chest harness that fits most breeds comfortably, so your dog will barely notice the pack while walking or running. In addition, the pack offers plenty of storage space, with two large main compartments, zippered side pockets with rain flaps, and an internal valuables pocket. And thanks to the pack's D-ring attachment point, you can attach the leash directly to the pack for easier hiking. As a result, the Mountainsmith dog pack is perfect for everything from all-day and overnight outings to extended trips into town. Other features include a single haul handle on top of the pack, a mesh pocket along the top for stashing the leash, compression straps, and reflective trim.

Nicely made and apparently comfortable... March 1, 2010 J. Flood (New Jersey) I was leery of getting the small size for a large but fit wheaten terrier, but that was definitely the right size. I suppose he could carry the next size up, but this one fits him nicely and also takes care of out needs. It's well constructed and he definitely perks up when it comes out. He's pretty transparent about his likes and dislikes so I think he'd be fine with 5 stars. It sits well if balanced correctly. We do mainly quiet street type walks with a few water bottles and other odds and ends.
outstanding January 7, 2010 mamakinz (NJ) I just received the pack yesterday and couldn't wait to try it on my 98 lb yellow lab. First time I walked him in over 6 months because he was SO out of control (Made Marley look like a saint). This is the first time I was able to walk my dog without cursing! He seemed to love it and was SO proud of himself for carrying my canned goods for me! It is a little big on the bottom but fits him across the back as he is broad; large definately would be too big for a slimmer dog, though. I would recommend this product in a heartbeat for high energy dogs that are difficult to walk.
Good if it fits, but be careful with size December 28, 2009 TNBob (Johnson City, TN) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Although there are more expensive packs for dogs out there, I decided to use this one for the short or moderate trips I take with my 100 pound Great Pyrenees.
The only problem we've had is that the straps seem to slip and won't stay tight. Our dog is extremely long haired and it's sometimes hard to keep things tight around him. The large is actually a bit big on his frame, but the straps all hit him in the right place.
If I were buying it again, I'd want to try the pack on my dog to make sure it fits perfectly. I'm going to have some fine-tuning to do.
Large Dog Pack by Mountain Smith December 12, 2009 Two Feathers (IN USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I am very happy with this pack I have been taking care of my son's mastiff/newfoundland mix. It is big enough for him with room to grow. We use it on long hikes, he caries 4 - 6 ponds in it and is very happy to do so.
It came sooner than I was expecting it and we have been enjoying having it.
Great product, but sizing appears to be off December 2, 2009 Bobb L. Bittner 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
My dog and I have a love-hate relationship with this backpack... in that I love it and he hates it. Well, he hates putting it on, anyway. After it is on, he ignores it. He doesn't try to bite/chew at it or roll around to try and get it off.
I throw a couple of water bottles in it, and he gets a lot more exercise than he normally would. Which is why I love it. A tired dog is a good dog.
The only problem is that the sizing might be a bit off. Admittedly, my dog is a weird shape: broad but very short, about 65 pounds and only 18" at the shoulder. (He's a rott/beagle mix.) I bought a medium but it is still a bit big. When cinched tight, the bags actually wrap a little bit under his belly instead of hanging at his sides like they are supposed to. It isn't a big deal for what we use it for (at most, he wears it for a couple of hours), but if your dog wears it for long periods while backpacking, it might become a problem.
Construction quality is top-notch. He has worn it quite a bit, swimming/wading with it on, banging into trees (and my legs), running through brush. I've washed it a couple of times. Everything is holding up well.
