Very Impressed March 11, 2010 F. Fazio I have owned these dumbbells for about a month now and so far I am very happy.
They seem sturdy, and when I say sturdy I mean built well and they don't feel flimsy. However, these dumbbells CANNOT be treated like regular dumbbells which means no dropping on the floor or banging together. I also bought the stand (well it came for free, bowflex had a promotion going on) and the incline/decline bench. Both items were easy to set up and seem to be built very well. I recommend both of them.
I guess time will tell on how they hold up, although I plan to take good care of them and not smash them around.
On paper they might look expensive but in reality they are cheap compared to how much it would cost if you bought the same weights in individual dumbbells.
Incredible weights! March 10, 2010 K. Sylvia (Boston, MA) I recently started the P90X program which allows you to workout in the comfort of your own home. Due to the durability and accessibility of being able to store them in a closet was a must for me. Instead of being forced to buy individual weights that take up quite a bit of room, you have all your weights in two dumbbells. You're getting what you pay for in the craftsmanship of these weights. They are very sturdy and do not feel cheap at all. The only con that I found with these weights were that they are a bit on the large side. This does limit your range of motion ever so slightly while doing certain exercises. Overall, great product and highly recommended!
So far so good. March 9, 2010 C. Engberg (Berkeley, CA) This product is acceptable. Its usefulness must be weighted against its flaws and in my opinion (so far) this a moderately well-designed product for its purpose: the home gym.
As others have noted the individual weight-components shift around slightly while in use--nothing extreme--but noticeable. Over time this may become a problem due to wear. This is why I wouldn't recommend this to anyone who will have more two people using these on a regular basis. This means not for any commercial uses or in therapy clinics (see some of the other comments...)
Because they shift, occasionally the weights get stuck in the holder. There is a technique to removing them involving standing on either side of the base and forcibly pulling on the weight. Happens about once a week, although nothing seems damaged, so I have been dealing with it so far.
Overall, a decent product for someone in cramped quarters (ie a dorm room or studio apartment) who doesn't mind dealing with a few minor flaws in design.
Great item March 6, 2010 Wayne Miller Plus: Space saving, easy to adjust weight, high quality materials.
Cons: Not very cheap, a few moves can be awkward due to the size of the dumbbells.
I think it's a fantastic product - if you purchase individual hand weights of the similar material it would run up a much larger bill and take up more space. When you order be sure to arrange for proper pick up or delivery - the package is 150 pounds!
Much better than the dumbells I had in high school March 6, 2010 Fred Bowin I have owned a pair of these for about 7 months. The weights stay on really secure so I didnt have to worry about them dropping on my feet. They are a bit more expensive than some but you get what you pay for. If you dont always have time to go to the gym like me, or you just want a decent upper body work out then these are the ones to buy
